The Pyramid House Blue Mountain Beach - A Hidden 30A Treasure. 

This blog post is a story we got from a Grayt 30A Vacation repeat guest. 

We had stayed in BMB before and couldn’t help noticing The Pyramid House because it is, well, a pyramid. When Grayt 30A Vacations added it to their beach rental collection I had to take a peak. I really liked the look and the size of TPHBMB. That it was “different” was a plus to our family as was the close proximity to the beach access, the salt water pool, the outdoor areas, and the price. But because I’m a worrier, after booking it I started to worry about 3 things: it was dog friendly and we don’t have one, it had a lot of steps and it was “older.” 

Here’s how we found it: 

Upon our arrival our 1st impression was that the house felt very private hidden into the scrub oaks and magnolia trees. Once we passed through the gate the house welcomed you in, the nicely landscaped yard and the sparkling pool created an oasis. The house is older but it’s looking really good. There is a covered poolside porch with a TV, a grill, nice seating area and picnic table. The steps up to the entrance landing, which I admit had kind of worried me, felt safe for everyone in our party. From the photos I had imagined, the  main floor porch would be where we would spend most of our al fresco time. It’s very inviting. 

Entering the main floor of the house I found the living room to be more comfy than I expected. The natural light made the interior bright and pleasant and it was very clean and tidy, which is exactly what we have come to expect from Grayt 30A Vacations. The couch was big and comfortable; a doggie couch blanket is provided for those with a furry family member.  Good TV sight line for all. The kitchen table can be pulled out from the wall, seating six if you want to eat inside, which for us was only once. The galley kitchen is small but well-appointed and functioned nicely. The main floor bedrooms were both roomy; the bedding firm and comfortable.

The top floor of the pyramid has an “office” handy for a remote work situation and opens to a cozy balcony with a view. It is so nice to sit up there to watch for shooting stars. That bedroom is very private and cozy. A good hideaway. 

The big room on the ground floor was perfect for naps, games/puzzles and it has a nice TV making three viewing areas available. Although windowless, we all found that room to be cheerful and bright and also enjoyed it as a comfortable quiet spot. There is a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge which is very handy when you are going to and from the beach. The laundry room is also on the ground floor, as is a half bath. An exit takes you through the large garage where we stored our beach gear. You can also exit out to the side of the house where the outdoor shower is from that room but we went in and out mainly through the garage. 

Like all the 30a beaches, Blue Mountain Beach is just lovely. The public access is a stone’s throw away from The Pyramid house. Once you set up your chairs and umbrella, take a walk to orient yourself. Go east towards Grayton Beach and you will find a dune lake that often opens up to the gulf. Walk further east into the state park and you might see deer up in the picturesque dunes. Go west towards Dune Allen to the main Blue Mountain beach access then climb up the stairs to find the popular Blue Mountain Bakery, the Creamery ice cream shop and Cowgirl Kitchen.  

We brought our own beach chairs and umbrella but using the beach credit we were able to order a tandem kayak and bikes. Using a kayak or SUP is a wonderful way to see many of the gulf wonders but you will see plenty of action right along the white sand shoreline. Watch for Dolphins, schools of fish, sting rays, herons, seagulls, pelicans, plovers, ospreys, eagles and sometimes even the US Air Force. We were able to do some shore fishing this trip and it was a blast. Being this close to the beach, try to see the sun rise and/or set every day if you can because it’s always a spectacular show and everyone gets a front row seat.  

When you get back from your SoWal adventures The Pyramid House BMB is a sweet spot to return to. All of us left there with our happy memories tucked away for later. 

Some thoughts about our stay:

Grayt 30A Vacations is easy to work with. You can read the reviews on Google, we aren’t the only ones who say nice things about them. Their reservation process is easy, they are local, very happy to answer questions about the houses, and knowledgeable about the 30A South Walton beaches. Don’t be afraid to ask. They are very friendly.

We ordered our bikes and a kayak with the beach gear credit offered. Such a nice service because it’s waiting there when you get there and then they pick it all up when you leave. Less to think about. Everyone was vary helpful. 

More dining we enjoyed included: Black Bear, Cowgirl Kitchen, Mimmo’s, The Bay, Borago, Bud and Alley’s Rooftop, and the Red Bar.
